NURULQURAN شَهِدَ اللَّهُ · The Divine Testimony

“Allah ˹Himself˺ is a Witness that there is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him — and so are the angels and people of knowledge. He is the Maintainer of justice. There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him — the Almighty, All-Wise.”

SŪRAH ĀL ʿIMRĀN · 3 : 18

Ⅰ · Word upon word

A sentence built like a proof.

Hover — or tap — any word of the āyah. The grammar itself is an argument: a witness, a negation, an exception, and two names that seal it shut.

Ⅱ · Three testimonies, one truth

Who bears witness?

Allah testifies by the signs He raised in the horizons and in the self; the angels testify by affirmation; and the people of knowledge testify by conviction, by speech, and by calling others to it. Their inclusion — alongside the angels — is, as Ibn Kathīr notes, the Qurʾān’s great honouring of knowledge.

01 شَهِدَ ٱللَّهُ

The Witness of Allah

He is sufficient as a Witness — the most truthful, the most just. His testimony is written across creation: every atom in need, He alone free of need.

02 وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ

The Angels

Beings of pure light and pure obedience, who never withhold the affirmation — a witness we know only because He informed us of it.

03 وَأُولُوا ٱلْعِلْمِ

The People of Knowledge

From the first prophet to the last scholar, unanimous across every century — and whoever has not reached this certainty in tawḥīd, said al-Saʿdī, is not yet of them.

Ⅲ · قَآئِمًۢا بِٱلْقِسْطِ

The Maintainer of justice.

Not a god who merely exists, but One who upholds — sustaining every creature in perfect equity, in creation, in decree, in law. The balance may swing as you move through the world; it always returns to true.

Ⅳ · The seal of two names

Might that never fails.
Wisdom that never errs.

ٱلْعَزِيزُ هُوَ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

Al-ʿAzīz — the Almighty, whose might no weakness touches. Al-Ḥakīm — the All-Wise, perfect in every word, act, law and decree. Power without wisdom is tyranny; wisdom without power is a wish. He is both, absolutely.

Ⅴ · From the commentaries

Voices on the testimony.

Allah bears witness — and He is sufficient as a Witness; He is the most truthful and most just of witnesses. Lā ilāha illā Huwa: He alone is the Lord and God of all creation; everyone and everything is His servant, in need of Him, while He is Rich beyond need.Ibn Kathīr
This āyah emphasises the great virtue of those who have knowledge — for Allah mentioned their testimony directly after the testimony of His angels.Ibn Kathīr
This is Allah’s establishment of tawḥīd by the mightiest of paths: His own testimony, and the testimony of the elite of His creation. And testimony is only given from knowledge and certainty — like seeing with the eye.al-Saʿdī
He has made it clear to His creation through proofs and signs that there is none truly worshipped in existence except Him. Qāʾiman — upholding, alone, His creation with justice. He repeats lā ilāha illā Huwa for emphasis.al-Jalālayn
Allah Himself bears witness that there is no God but He; and likewise do the angels and the men possessed of knowledge bear witness — in truth and in justice.Maududi · Tafhīm al-Qurʾān
The Mighty in His dominion, whom none can overpower; the Wise in His creating, His planning and His legislating.al-Mukhtaṣar

Ⅵ · Echo

لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ

Said twice in one verse — once as the content of the testimony, once as its conclusion. The heavens declare it, the light declares it, and now, perhaps, so do you.
