“Has there come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing mentioned?”
Reflection: Pause and really think about this: there was an unimaginably long stretch of time when the universe ran just fine, and we didn’t exist. Nobody knew your name, nobody was waiting for you, and nobody was speaking about you. When we remember how recently we showed up here, where does any arrogance even come from? It grounds us in real humility before the One who brought us into being.
“Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may test him; and We made him hearing and seeing.”
Reflection: We started from the absolute humblest beginning—a single microscopic fluid drop. Yet Allah didn’t just create us; He gave us hearing and sight. Why? Because this life is a real, purposeful test (نَّبْتَلِيهِ). Your eyes and ears aren't just biological organs; they’re how you take in the world, recognize truth, feel compassion, and make conscious choices every single day.
“Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful.”
Reflection: Allah didn’t drop us into the world and leave us guessing in the dark. He gave us an inner conscience and sent clear messengers. In the end, human life comes down to one daily choice: either you live with real gratitude for everything you’ve been given (شَاكِرًا), or you take it all for granted and walk away (كَفُورًا).
